WHAT WE DO

A club as well as a school

Ballarat Airport has some unique strengths for its members and students, striking a great balance between high quality facilities but avoiding the traffic and chaos of the bigger metropolitan airports.

Our goal is to produce pilots at a high quality where airmanship and air safety are paramount. Put simply, we are confident the people we put in the command seat of any airplane have the skills and knowledge to safely navigate the skies.

We can train all types of students, no matter your end goal:

  • Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) or Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC) - Your first steps into the sky!

  • Private Pilot Licence (PPL) - Looking to fly around Australia with some friends and family? The PPL might be what you are looking for. Currently the club utilises a number of planes including Cessna 152, Cessna 172, and Piper Warrior to help work with your budget and other requirements.

  • Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) - Are you looking to make a career out of your flying, then the CPL is what you are looking for. If you want to earn money while flying then you'll need this to get there. The club's experienced instructors will be able to pass on their years of commercial experience.

For more information read on to better understand the

journey you will go through to achieve one of the most

rewarding qualifications in the world.

WHO WE ARE

Fun and welcoming

The Ballarat Aero Club had its original founding in 1928, when it became associated with the Royal Aero Club of Victoria. Since then the club and airport has had a storied history including becoming a RAAF base, the club operating out of an old tram until 1962 when the RAAF moved out and the club moved into their old facilities.

Today the club operates as both a club for like minded individuals to join as well as a 'high flying' school getting new pilots up in the sky. You can quite literally see the history in the buildings as well as the surrounding barrack's at the airport.

For visiting pilots we have a canteen, lounge, toilets and a welcoming vibe! Stop on in and have a chat with members of the club before you head on to your next destination. If you are looking for the aerodrome details go here.
