Recreational Flying (RAAus)

If you are wish to learn to fly for pleasure, just want to become airborne and have fun without too much fuss, or perhaps want to build an ultra light aircraft, then this is the way for you to go.

The Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus) organisation has authority from CASA to regulate and oversee the operations of small aeroplanes in Australia. These aeroplanes (previously called “Ultralights”) have a maximum of 2 seats and a limited maximum weight.

There are just a few restrictions placed on ultra light operations including: not for flying commercial (paid) operations, not flying in controlled airspace, flying only in visual daytime conditions, etc. That still leaves a lot of room to fly through most of this country, operate ultra light, and have a lot of fun – that’s what it is all about.

If you have ever wanted to learn to fly and think you cannot afford it, then read on. Here you will find a brief overview of what is involved.
